New emoji in Emoji 18.0
Unicode released Emoji 18.0 on 16 September 2026 with 9 new emoji. Phones and computers add new emoji in their own software updates, usually some months after a release, so they may not show on your device yet.
What happens if your device can’t show them
You can still copy and send a new emoji. People whose devices support it will see it; on older devices it shows as an empty box, a question mark or, for some, as two older emoji side by side. Nothing is lost: once the device updates, the same message displays correctly.
Which phones support which release is decided by Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft and others, not by Unicode, so we don’t predict dates here.
